sun withering
Literal meaning
sunlight withering
Definition#
Withering by exposing thinly spread leaf to sunlight. For white tea, trade accounts describe two to three days on bamboo trays in the sun, credited with keeping 毫香 but dependent on weather; in compound withering it is only a short opening phase (one Guangdong draft standard: 15–30 min in soft sun until 5–8% weight loss). In oolong the equivalent step is called 晒青.
