Notes#
The Wuliang Mountains run through Nanjian (Dali), Jingdong, Zhenyuan and Jinggu (Pu'er) and other areas, in limestone and sandstone. The main peak, Maotou Shan (猫头山, 3,306 m), is in Jingdong. The national nature reserve covers 31,585 ha at 1,600-3,371 m (Jingdong 23,981 ha, Nanjian 7,604 ha). Jingdong's reserve was set up in 1986 and Nanjian's in 1995, and the State Council merged and upgraded them in 2000. It protects mid-montane wet evergreen broadleaf forest and central Yunnan's largest Yunnan hemlock forest, with 1,813 vascular plants, 373 birds and 123 mammals, including the western black crested gibbon. For tea, Jingdong presents itself as 'Wuliang Jingdong': old trees and over 12,000 mu of 'ecological' gardens in the Wuliang hinterland around Jingfu town, and a large cooperative in Anding town. On the Nanjian side, the Dean village garden lies at 1,800-2,400 m inside the reserve. To the west, Yunxian's Baiyingshan faces the range across the Lancang.
