Bada tea king: age, discovery and death

Government and Wikipedia sources give over 1,700 years (zh Wikipedia: over 34 m tall) and say the tree has died; I found no source I could open for the often-cited 1961 discovery or for the year it died. Age is a claim, not a dated measurement.

Notes#

Bada lies in western Menghai near the Myanmar border, in Xiding Hani-Bulang township (highest point Xiao Heishan 2,249 m, lowest 668 m). The Manwa (曼佤) village committee, about 1,700 m, mainly Bulang and Hani, is described as the 'home of the tea king': the wild Bada tea king on Dahei Mountain (大黑山) above Hesong (贺松) was said to be over 1,700 years old and has died ('已仙逝'); the zh Wikipedia Bulang article gives its height as over 34 m. Dahei Mountain has over 3,000 mu of wild ancient tea. Manwa had 6,367 mu of tea (193.4 t in 2016). Zhanglang (章朗, about 1,330 m, 21.5 °C, 1,530 mm) has 938 mu of ancient trees in its old, new and middle villages and was named a traditional Chinese village in 2013. Township-wide old-tree tea is only 2,765 of 58,605 mu (about 5%, inference). The township's rainy season runs May–October, with sea-of-cloud fogs in November–December. Coordinates are the OSM node 巴达; Hesong is about 5 km south-east.
