Xin ('new') Banzhang was founded by people who moved out of the original village, which was then renamed Lao Banzhang (Xishuangbanna News 2017). A 2022 forum guide dates the founding to about 60 years earlier (inference: around the 1960s; unverified), puts it about 7 km from Lao Banzhang across one mountain with similar climate, and gives about 1,400 mu of trees averaging about 100 years old. OSM places it about 6 km south-west of Lao Banzhang in a straight line. Vendors describe its tea as close to Lao Banzhang in structure but with more lingering bitterness.
