Altitude#

Terroir#

Soil
Red soil ('泉甘土赤'), described as fertile.
Slope and light
Mountainous; the town profile says most of it lies at a bit over 500 m (so elevation_m is a typical value, not a garden range) and gives a mean temperature of 18–21 °C. A brand's promotional text puts its own gardens at 800–1,000 m, which is not independent evidence. Yunzhongshan provincial nature reserve is in the town.

Cultivation#

Cultivars grown
Tieguanyin
Practice
Organised through firms, cooperatives and family farms ('lead firm + cooperative + farmer'); demonstration ecological gardens.

Notes#

Gande covers 221.78 km² in north-west Anxi, with 22 villages and about 72,000 people. It borders Jiandou to the east and Zhangping to the west. The town profile calls it a core Tieguanyin area: tea gives farmers over 80% of their income, and the whole tea chain is worth over 3 billion yuan. Most of the town lies at a bit over 500 m, with red soil and good spring water (泉甘土赤). Production runs through 2 provincial lead firms, 133 cooperatives and 49 family farms. Its raw-tea market is among the busiest in the county in season; in autumn 2017 it caused rare traffic jams. The town is also the ancestral home of the deity Baosheng Dadi (保生大帝) and the source of the 'Tea King God' (茶王公) cult.
