Xiaguan is a historic centre for tea processing and trade within Dali. The national heritage entry attributes tuocha to the Xizhou Bai merchant house Yongchangxiang in 1902. The Kangzang Tea Factory, predecessor of the Xiaguan Tea Factory, was founded in 1941. Pressed tea travelled from Xiaguan along the tea-horse roads to north-west Yunnan, Tibet and Sichuan. Within the prefecture, the pu'er GI includes Dali City (Xiaguan, Dali, Fengyi, Wanqiao and Yinqiao towns), Yongping, Yunlong, Nanjian and Weishan.
